Do you currently own – or have you ever owned – a Samsung smartphone or tablet? Then you should make sure to log in before 31 July 2025. According to the Swedish tech site Teksajten.se, Samsung will begin permanently deleting all accounts that have not been used in the past two years – including any data stored in them.
Samsung to delete inactive accounts
Samsung states that the aim of this new policy is to improve data security and better protect user privacy. However, the consequences could be serious for anyone who overlooks the warning:
All photos, apps, contacts, and settings linked to the account will be permanently deleted – with no option for recovery.
This new rule applies to all Samsung services that require a login, such as Samsung Cloud, Galaxy Store, and Find My Mobile.
If you don’t log into your Samsung account at least once every two years, it will be considered inactive and will be completely removed. Samsung has said it will notify affected users via email – but if you have multiple Samsung accounts, you’ll need to log into each one individually to keep them active.
“Even if you haven’t used a Samsung phone in years, there’s a chance you still have an account at risk of being deleted,” Teksajten.se warns.
Especially important for those who have switched brands
This new policy is particularly important for anyone who used to own a Samsung device but has since switched to another brand – such as an iPhone, OnePlus, or Google Pixel – and may still have data stored in their old Samsung account.
Many people have forgotten they even had a Samsung login, but that doesn’t mean their data is safe.
I’m in exactly that position myself – I used a Samsung phone several years ago, but have since moved on to a different brand. If I don’t log in before the deadline, everything linked to that account will be lost for good.
